Finding an extra cash stream quickly can be a real challenge. Whether you’re a business owner looking to make the most of a passing opportunity or you’re in the middle of a project that needs urgent cash, running out of money can be a problem.
What sort of collectibles can I pawn?
At Pawnbrokers Rodeo Drive, we have many years of experience in this field – so we know all there is to know when it comes to the collectibles market.
For that reason, we’re happy to consider all sorts of collectibles for pawning – although there are some which appear more frequently than others.
Some are items which first had other purposes but are now collectors’ items only, such as unusual coins or rare stamps. Other items we commonly see are pieces of furniture and soft furnishings like silver crockery or cutlery, as well as decoration items like ceramics. We even accept larger items such as clocks.
We promise our clients that their items will always be fairly valued in order to receive a loan that fully matches the amount the item is worth. For that reason, we have a team of valuers with high levels of expertise and diverse backgrounds on hand to give your collectibles an appropriate valuation.
Verification of the item
Prior to the loan being confirmed, we will need to see some provenance associated with the item you are hoping to pawn. This is essentially a way for us to confirm that the collectible or antique in question is authentic and that it is not a copy.
All sorts of evidence has been known to be used as provenance, although what is acceptable will vary from piece to piece. In some circumstances, photographs may be enough: we may sometimes need to see other evidence, such as documents or certificates.
How much can I borrow?
This will be determined entirely by the value of your item, which is another reason why receiving a fair valuation from our team is essential to build trust on all sides.
We will take many different factors into account when deciding how much your item is worth. These will include, but are not limited to, the provenance (as outlined above), how rare the item is and what condition it is currently in.
This latter point is perhaps the most important. Your item is much more likely to command a higher value (and, hence, a higher loan for you) if you’re able to demonstrate that it is in good condition. This means that those pesky chips to your plates or rust on your coin collection may well stand in the way of you achieving a larger loan: it also means that antiques and collectibles in a good condition are likely to command a higher price!
What’s more, our valuations are completely free – so you won’t have to pay a penny when you enquire with us, and there’s no obligation to take things further. That means you don’t have anything to lose by getting in touch.
How do the loans work?
Once we’re all set and the valuation has been completed, you’ll be able to access a loan based on the amount your item has been deemed to be worth.
This loan will come with specific terms, and you’ll need to look through these and make sure you understand them before going ahead and agreeing.
We offer generous terms designed with flexibility in mind. Once the terms have been agreed and the contracts have been signed and exchanged, for example, we will be able to release either an immediate advance or the funds in their entirety.
When it comes to repayment, meanwhile, our terms are simple. Once you have paid back the loan in its entirety plus interest, you will be able to get your items right away. We’re happy to offer you the chance to pay back your loan at any stage while you have a contract with us, so you’ll always know you have that security if your funds come through earlier than expected.
Provided you have paid back the interest which has built up over the course of the term, meanwhile, you will be able to extend your contract term once it has been completed.
